Brookbank Master Class - Sailing
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 12:42PM Brookbank Sailing are delighted to announce the launch of the 'Brookbank Master Classes' in association with Dinghy Sailing magazine. These key note lectures will be held at the new Brookbank sailing superstore located in Waltham Abbey, North London and to ensure that we don't clash with sailor's time on the water, the lectures will be held on Thursday evenings at 7pm.
Please note entry is free to Brookbank Loyalty card holders. Loyalty cards are available to purchase on the night for £4. The loyalty card entitles you to free entry to all Masterclass lectures plus gets you 10% discount in store on clothing and special offer prices on end of line kit. Valid for 12 months.
The Brookbank Master Classes are as follows:
17th June - Splicing Master Class from the Marlow Technical Team
Jonathan White and Will Gulliver from Marlow Ropes will be presenting several one hour evening lectures on Thursday 17th June to guide sailors through 'splicing' ropes. The Technical Marlow team will explain varied types of splicing including adjustable, locking and advanced locking, taper, control line and double braid. Also they will be on hand to answer questions on all the new rope developments that sailors require.

Brookbank Sailing Master Class goes ‘Afloat’ at Erith Yacht Club - 11th September 2010
Brookbank Sailing is launching the first ‘Master Class Afloat’ on Saturday 11th September with three international High Performance Sailing Coaches:
- Jon Emmett – Single-Handers
- Richard Parslow – Asymmetrics
- Jon Turner - Hiking and Trapeze Double-Handers
Brookbank Sailing is proud to be working in partnership with Erith Yacht Club, who are the host for this exciting inaugural event on Saturday 11th September. Erith Yacht Club can now boast an amazing new club house, ideal to host events like this and aims to support and develop sailors through their careers.
There are three fleets (all with a handicap less than 1250 and sailors over the age of 18 years old) – Single Hander / Double Hander / Asymmetric with a maximum of 10 boats per fleet and sailors will need to be capable of racing in 25 knots of breeze. Places are limited and are expected to be booked quickly – training fees for single-handers and double-handers are £40 and £55 per boat respectively.

Jim is a sailing legend and was the coach for the GBR Youth team (1977-2000), GBR Olympic team (1996 and 2000) and ISAF Youth team (2000-2008)
25th February 2010 - Steve Cockerill - The Boat Whisperer
He is the current RS300 National Champion, Blaze National Champion, UK Laser Masters National Champion (Standard Rig), Laser Masters Worlds 2nd Apprentice (Radial Rig), and Laser Radial National Champion.
1st April 2010 - Mike McNamara - In Tune - the boat, the sailor, the rig - all in synq!!
Top sail maker, coach and sailor - currently the Cadet National Coach and inspirational speaker on a aspects of making you go faster.
29th April 2010 - Dave Cockerill - Single-hander wave sailing
Dave is the RYA Topper National Coach, holds an RYA Class Coach ticket. He was the 2005 RYA Squad Coach of the year. He currently coaches the RYA Topper National Junior Squad and the Topper Class Association’s All-Girls Group as well as coaching as far afield as Ireland and Dubai.
27th May - Jon Emmett - Be Your Own Sailing Coach
John Emmett first started racing in the Laser where he was runner up to the now legendary Ben Ainslie in the 1995 Youth Nationals, and was therefore his training partner for the Youth Worlds. Jon continued to campaign his Laser until at 21 he realised he was never going to be big enough. However at this time he was at Loughborough University where he was a sports Scholar and not in an ideal position to change class.
